Wheel Up: Fair Fly Campaign

We’re calling on all advocates across Perth to come together and push for change. The Wheel Up: Fair Fly campaign aims to address a critical issue facing individuals with disabilities who use wheelchairs: the inability to bring our own chairs onto airplanes. This restriction creates significant personal and mental challenges for many of us, leaving us without the independence and dignity we deserve when flying.

Through this campaign, we are demanding that authorities and airlines take responsibility and create a clear plan to allow wheelchair users to safely bring their chairs on flights. We believe that travel should be accessible to everyone, and no one should have to sacrifice their mobility or comfort when flying.

By uniting as a community and applying pressure on decision-makers, we can make travel more inclusive and ensure that people with disabilities are treated with the respect and fairness they deserve. Join us in advocating for change and making sure that everybody flies fair. This project is lead by Sam Ren, the disability advocate.

Domestic Violence Awareness

Domestic violence affects individuals from all walks of life, but within multicultural communities, there can be unique challenges that prevent victims from seeking help or even recognizing they are experiencing abuse. Cultural stigmas, language barriers, fear of discrimination, and lack of accessible resources can make it more difficult for individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds to reach out for support.

At The Stories Project WA, we are dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence within these communities and providing the necessary resources to ensure safety, support, and empowerment.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Cultural Sensitivity: We aim to foster understanding around the different cultural attitudes and beliefs that may influence how domestic violence is perceived in various communities. We recognize the importance of cultural competence in providing support and assistance in ways that resonate with victims’ needs.

  2. Breaking the Silence: Many individuals from multicultural backgrounds may fear judgment or repercussions if they speak out about their experiences. Our goal is to create safe spaces for these communities where they can openly discuss domestic violence and its impact without fear of shame or retaliation.

  3. Education & Empowerment: Through workshops, information sessions, and advocacy, we provide educational resources on recognizing signs of domestic violence, understanding the legal rights of victims, and connecting individuals with support networks and services.

  4. Language & Accessibility: We work to ensure that victims of domestic violence from diverse linguistic backgrounds can access services in their preferred language. Providing translated materials and multilingual counseling options are critical steps in breaking down communication barriers.

  5. Support for the Whole Family: Domestic violence doesn’t only impact the individual; it affects the entire family unit. We offer support that addresses the needs of children, elders, and other family members who may also be impacted or at risk.

  6. Collaborating with Local Communities: We partner with community organizations, faith-based groups, and cultural leaders to spread awareness and drive meaningful change. These trusted voices can help challenge harmful cultural practices and stigma surrounding domestic violence.

Our Call to Action:

We invite individuals, leaders, and organisations within multicultural communities to join us in the fight against domestic violence. By working together, we can create safer, more supportive environments where everyone—regardless of their background—has access to the help and resources they need to break free from abuse and live empowered lives.

Together, we can amplify voices, educate our communities, and build a network of support that transcends cultural barriers and brings hope to those in need.
